Ephesians 5:1-2
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
.: Welcome :.
Welcome to our blog. Here you will find mushy sentiments of love, random updates, pictures and news.
The Beast: David is a man’s man. He can work with his hands, tie knots, drive an 18 wheeler and a motorcycle, and can repair things at the house. Mmmmhmmm… The Beast.
Warrior Poet and MacGyverSpeare: Warrior Poet is a term I stole; MacGyverSpeare (a blend of MacGyver and Shakespeare) is something I coined. The idea is that of the Renaissance man, the multi-dimensional man who can kick some butt and then write a poem about it. What a gift it is to have a man who will protect and provide as he serenades and writes poetry.
Servant Leader: Submit to husband? No problem. This servant leader will work a 14 hour day and finish the evening off by mowing my yard or making us dinner. I have never seen selflessness like this.
Haiku Wooer: David writes me 17 syllables of love all of the time. It speaks my language.
Best Friend and Favorite: Isn’t that the way it should be? Your husband being your best friend and your favorite person ever? I love this man. I respect this man. I delight in this man.
WEirdo: From the line of a poem by Rives I love: “You’re weird with a capital WE.” My interpretation? I identify myself with all of his idiosyncrasies. We are WEird, and we are one.
David and I share a passion, haikus; I call him my hai-wooer. Often he will send me, via text message, seventeen syllables which make me swoon, smile or blush. I read and re-read them all the time. Here are a few examples:
David asked my pop for permission to marry me on Mother’s Day (May 9). He proposed on May 14. This is how he did it…
We had plans to eat at The Cheesecake Factory and listen to some music at Mozart’s afterward. David said, “I don’t know… why don’t we get all dressed up or something,” so included in his outfit that night was a fedora I spontaneously bought him a couple of months earlier. Dinner was great. On the way to Mozart’s, David suggested a detour. We drove over to The Long Center where, on January 6, David asked me to be his girlfriend. There was a symphony that night, and we didn’t have tickets. I must admit, my radar was up when David paid for parking so we could hang out for a while before going down to Mozart’s.
Hand in hand, we walked down to the City Terrace, a patio area in front of the Long Center with a spectacular view of the Austin skyline. We stepped out onto the lighted circle on the edge of the terrace; we have joked it could be used for Dance, Dance Revolution. David began singing, in a cappella, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” He sang, we danced, we kissed, he knelt, I knew…
He removed the fedora from his head while he spoke words I can really only remember in bits… “I love you” … “It would make me happy” … “Would you?” … He pulled back the lining of his hat to reveal the engagement ring hidden inside. I said yes, of course, and we kissed some more. Heading back to the car, we discovered many of the symphony-goers had been eagerly waiting for us to conclude our intimate moment so they could share in our celebration. Where there are windows on that side of the Long Center, we saw the smiling faces of our audience, some with fists pumping above their heads as if they were at a rock concert and not at the symphony. It was awesome.
Here is a picture of me in the fedora, taken a few weeks before our engagement. I love that hat…
Among the decisions to make for the wedding, song selections for the ceremony and reception are some of my favorite. A couple of weeks into our dating, David sent me, through email, a recording of him singing a portion of the song, “Good Morning Beautiful.” There it sat in my inbox from 4:49 AM (he recorded it during one of his early morning truck runs) until I read it a few hours later when I woke up. I danced through the house, smiling, crying, feeling so beautiful that morning. He has wooed me with music many times over the last few months.
Since then, David and I have exchanged mixed cd’s for each other. Below is a wordle (wordle.net) of the lyrics. I’m thinking most, if not all, of these songs will be played on the 22nd. Please sing along, tap your foot, and dance with us in celebration.
We a date set! And a place to hold both the ceremony and the reception.
It will be on July 22 2010, at beautiful Mercury Hall in south Austin.
It used to be an old church in Mercury, TX, but it was moved to Austin in 1997. It has stained glass windows and beautiful landscaping. There are big oak trees, bamboo, a waterfall, and a nice lawn.
We went to Sea World with KJ’s family today. I went on my first roller coaster ever. We got up close and personal with a penguin and a sea lion. Took lots of pictures.
We are trying to find a venue for the wedding, and set a date. It’s looking like it’s gonna be late July or early August.
